To finalise our celebrations, we are delighted to be able to hold a reception for members and special guests. We are extremely grateful to Karen Buck MP, our lead sponsor, who is hosting this event at the House of Commons on the afternoon of Wednesday 7th June 2023.

We are honoured to have supporting our event and speaking, Jeanelle de Gruchy (Deputy Chief Medical Officer),  Abdul Razaq (Director of Public Health, Blackburn with Darwen Council) and Mark Dooris (Professor in Health and Sustainability, Co-Director, Healthy and Sustainable Settings Unit at University of Central Lancashire).

Pat Owen, IHPE President said “ We are so grateful to Ms Karen Buck, MP, for agreeing to host a reception at the House of Commons to celebrate 60 years of work at the Institute of Health Promotion and Education on June 7th, 2023. We are looking forward to meeting Karen and hearing more about Karen’s interests, centred around human rights and justice which fit so well with the promotion of health in its broadest sense”.

Topic of discussion will include :-

  • Updates from the Office of Health Improvement and Disparities, public health policy and the role of health promotion in improving health and wellbeing.
  • The importance, and role of health promotion, in its widest sense, for the next decade, to reduce inequalities and improve health and wellbeing.
  • The importance of a settings based approach as a route / format to achieve the biggest / most sustainable impact, with examples / past learning.
  • The future role of health promotion in reducing inequalities, from a perspective as a Director of Public Health.

This will be an excellent opportunity for networking and also hearing about the future plans of IHPE. We will reflect on and celebrate all that IHPE has achieved over the decades and share our future plans. The audience will be IHPE members, supporters and stakeholders.
