IHPE in association with Taylor & Francis, continues to publish the International Journal of Health Promotion and Education which was launched two years after IHPE was founded in 1962. The Journal is published 6 times a year and is free to all members.

At the end of 2022 a special collection of articles was edited by the editor and deputy editor of the Journal Professors Michelle Baybutt and Stephen Palmer (both trustees of IHPE) and made freely available online by the publishers Taylor & Francis. The compilation included the six most read online papers and the six most cited papers of all time.

Articles in the Special Collection have been viewed thousands of times with the paper by Thompson, Watson and Tilford published in 2017 viewed over 20,000 times.

At the time of writing this the Special Collection is still available by clicking here

Did our colleagues who set up the Institute of Health Education and Promotion (formerly Institute of Health Education) and supported the publication of the journal ever imagine that sixty years later the journal would be international and publishing high quality papers?

However, as editors we are pleased that they launched this publication as it has provided educators and researchers in this field an outlet to share their important work over many years.

As part of the celebration, journal articles in Volume 1, Issue 1 and Volume 60 Issue 1 have been made free access and downloadable from the journal website for a limited period.

These articles emphasise how health promotion and education has developed from the 20th century into the 21st century. A journal cannot exist without article submissions, editorial team and reviewers. We thank everyone who has supported the journal since its inception in 1963. We look forward to a successful future.
