Sex education now mandatory for all secondary schools in England

The Institute strongly commends the  Education Secretary, Justine Greening, who tabled an amendment to extend statutory ‘relationships and sex education’ to all secondary schools and ‘relationships education’ to all primary schools.

On March 1st the Education Secretary, Justine Greening, tabled an amendment to extend ‘relationships and sex education’ to all secondary schools and relationships education to all primary schools. The legislation will also give the government the power to introduce PSHE education in the future. Commentators are confident that the amendment will pass given the widespread support across political parties.  The Institute has long campaigned for compulsory PSHE and this is an important first step.
