But TB still ranks alongside HIV as a leading cause of death worldwide.

The World Health Organisation’s annual update  has estimated around 9.6 million people around the world contracted TB in 2014.

According to the report – to reduce TB’s overall burden, detection and treatment gaps need to be closed, funding shortfalls filled and new diagnostics, drugs and vaccines developed.
